Crenshaw Book Review

Crenshaw is the story of a boy named Jackson the summer before he starts fifth grade. As his family faces new struggles, Jackson's old imaginary friend Crenshaw returns. Crenshaw is a giant skateboarding cat with a strange sense of humor. The last time Jackson saw Crenshaw he was in first grade and his family was living out of their car. Now, Jackson thinks he is crazy because his imaginary friend has returned when he is too old to have one. But he can't seem to get Crenshaw to leave...

This story is funny and a little sad at the same time. Jackson loves facts, so it is easy to understand why he is confused that his imaginary friend has returned. Jackson feels so different from his family, which is something we've all felt before. He doesn't fit in and he feels that there is something wrong with him or something wrong with his family. Jackson wishes that his parents would take more responsibility instead of treating their problems with a positive attitude.

This book has an AR level of 3.8, is targeted toward middle grades, and is worth 3 points.
